My parents always insisted that I try a food at least once. Chained to the dining room chair, I was forced to eat forkfuls of liver-and-onions, zucchini, and eggplant. Okay, I wasn’t chained to the chair, but food was costly during my childhood, and my parents watched to make sure I at least tried the meals. And whatta ya know…those hated childhood entrees tasted great. Not that I readily admitted it to my friends—that wouldn’t be “cool.” As an adult, my taste has become more exotic.
